Traditional stroke play competition often demands a significant upfront investment, both in entry fees and time, with the pressure of needing to finish at the very top just to claim any prize money. It’s a high-risk scenario where a single bad hole can dash your hopes of taking home a reward. Skins golf revolutionizes this dynamic by offering the chance to win money on every hole, keeping you in the game and engaged until the very last putt. With a larger, more exciting purse at stake, Skins Golf League transforms how you compete, turning every hole into an opportunity and every round into an electrifying experience.
What is skins golf?
Traditional stroke play golf focuses on the total number of strokes taken across all holes, with players competing to have the lowest overall score. Prizes typically go to the top finishers at the end of the round or tournament, making the entire competition hinge on consistent performance. This format can be unforgiving, as a single bad hole can greatly diminish a player’s chances of winning.
In contrast, Skins golf breaks the competition down into individual holes, each with its own cash prize — or "skin." To win a skin, a player must have the lowest score on that particular hole, and if there’s a tie, the skin carries over to the next hole, increasing the stakes. This format keeps every player engaged throughout the round because each hole presents a fresh opportunity to win money, regardless of previous holes. It adds excitement and strategy, as competitors focus not only on their overall game but also on winning specific holes. Skins Golf League leverages this dynamic to create a more thrilling, fast-paced golf experience where every shot counts and every hole offers a chance to cash in.
SKINS GOLF LEAGUE format
4 golfers will be paired together based on their USGA GHIN handicap. Each group will compete in their own skins game. Skins will be awarded to the lowest score in the 4 person group for each hole. If 2 or more people make the same lowest score on a hole, the skin will continue to roll to the next hole until 1 person makes the lowest score in the group on a hole. Example: 2 players make par, one makes bogie, and the other makes double bogie. No skin is awarded because 2 people made the lowest score. The skin will move to the next hole, making the next hole worth 2 skins. The next hole, one player makes par and everyone else makes bogie. The player that shot par on the 2nd hole, now wins 2 skins. The following hole will now go back to 1 skin. 18 skins are awarded in a round.
If the last hole is tied, the remaining skin(s) will be awarded to the winner of the most recent hole. Example, if a player won hole 15, and hole 16-18 are tied, the winner of hole 15 will get the remaining 3 skins.
An optional flight division skins and tournament division skins will be available to buy in. Skin value will be based on the number of participants. Skins will only be awarded to birdie and lower scores. If multiple people score the same lowest score, the skin value for that hole will be evenly distributed across those players. All scores are gross.
The buy in will include the green fees, cart fees, practice facility and a $10 skin per hole.
Flight Divisions:
A Flight – 0-5.9 handicap (6,700+ yards)
B Flight – 6-11.9 handicap (6,400 - 6,699 yards)
C Flight – 12-17.9 handicap (6,000 - 6,399 yards)
D Flight – 18+ (<5,999 yards)
